I found this wonderful creature clinging to the kitchen window when I went to put the washing out this morning. It moved its wings a little and has the most vivid orange 'undercarriage'. I can't find it in my butterfly books, so I wondered if it is a moth?
I'm hoping that it is just taking a rest and isn't glued to the window as a result of the spiders' webs that I have neglected to clean!

They are far more obliging than the butterflies - who flitter off just as you have got the camera out.
So obliging, in fact, that I am now very worried that it is stuck there!
Looks rather like a Wood Tiger Moth....though I'm not 100% sure.

I think you are right - how exciting! It stayed around overnight, then, when I thought it had died, disappeared.
