Thanks! I should have spotted that they were different!
Apart from Small Whites, and a few unidentified brown ones, that is the only other one I've seen on the plot so far this year.-

Browns could be any of the following, Speckled Wood (highly spotted wings) Meadow Brown (black spots) Gatekeeper (black spot with 2 almost touching white spots).
Whites will probably be small and large white and green veined!
Not seen more than a single common blue, with numerous commas, peacocks and small tortoiseshell. Red Admiral starting to become visible.

We've had lots of whites around but very, very few red admirals or peacocks...only seen about two of each maybe...the bad Spring killed them off...seen a lot of little brown ones though...GBHs...XXX

I've seen virtually none except whites. I think perhaps you're right about the adverse weather. Thanks. xx

did they had eating cabbage leaves on their minds, do you think?!
-
- 2008-08-24 @ 10:17:32
If they did they'd have been out of luck on my plot as I'm not growing any!

I don't think I've ever seen two butterflies get close (and possibly personal) like that. Maybe they are chatting about the credit crunch effect on cabbage!

Actually MrF, one of your whites, is in fact, a Brimstone butterfly! Never easy to find sitting around!
