Even worse than I first thought. 10% of aphids against last year - and that wasn't a year remembered for the sun either.
My own observations bear out the drop in numbers. Dragonflies are suffering due to their generally later emergence than damselflies (which haven't had such a bad spring). Our back garden is now more insect friendly than last year, so have seen an increase.
Think to help for next year, we should all invest in an insect wintering box (or if you're skint, tie up a bundle of short bamboo canes - they nest in the hollows.).
